Garden Guest: Female Red Winged Blackbird

The north side of our front yard is a certified  National Wildlife Federation Backyard Habitat.  Really!  We have a certificate!  You can do the same by providing food, water, cover and places for wildlife to raise their young.  It is so much fun to see all of the critters that stop by for a visit.  I've begun a new series of posts to show you our Garden Guests.

If you would like to see more, check my Gardening Page!

'Gotta be honest.  Even though we frequently see these girls, I forget who they are!  This is a female red winged blackbird.  They don't look a thing like their very showy husbands.  Attracting them is pretty simple with mixed bird seed.  These subtle beauties will eat just about anything!

For blogging music...  Hmmm...  Ya'll know how I love pure voices.  How about this amazing performance at the Grammys of O Brother Where Art Thou?

What's happening in your back yard?

  4. My backyard? Well, I almost got a buzzcut from a herd of sparrows yesterday. It was our first nice day this year and they were acting silly.
Thanks for the female redwinged blackbird info. I would have had no idea, but I will watch for them now. They're quite cute!

  6. Oh how i love to see photos of birds, they're so sweet and necessary. yesterday we had a robin visiting on fence across our driveway. We have several birds come to visit since we started putting food out for them. Had to move feeders as birds were pooping on neighbors car/truck. No biggie. Enjoy your bird visitors. Happy days
