Reversible Headbands in Purple

You may remember THIS POST where I shared my new obsession enthusiasm for reversible headbands!  They are a super quick sew and a great way to lower my HUGE pile of fabric scraps!

Take a look at them in purple!  These are for a couple of adorable sisters, ages 4 and 2.

Their bedroom is currently decorated all in "Hello, Kitty" so I'm thinking these will be a big hit!

 What have you been sewing?

Banner was Framed!

Read all about it!  ;-)

I stumbled across this adorable FREE PRINTABLE banner for a Valentine's Day, but my brain immediately went a different direction.  Does anyone else have a directionally challenged brain?

Anyone?

While I truly love the color scheme, let's face it.  My home is an old rock farmhouse. So, I wanted to "antique" these lovely letters a bit.  Out came this textured paper with smudges and swirls in lavender and pink.  I like the added depth in colors along with a more vintage feel.

Instead of cutting the letters as pennants, they were snipped into squares.

Now for the next step, you could actually use math skills (if you have them, but I don't) and get everything perfectly aligned.  ;-)  I just made sure they were a half inch from the edge and sort of just guessed at the rest of it.

A simple glue stick holds everything in place.  The 12 x 12 piece of cardstock has been in my scrap booking stash for AGES along with the 12 x 12 black frame.

This was such a fun little project!  I think I will use large buttons and teach the kiddos how to play tic tac toe with it!

What's being framed around your house?

All You Need is LOVE (and a red ribbon)

This wreath was actually created for Christmas, but has been left in place for Valentine's Day!  ;-)  It is really very simple.

You probably remember the frame from THIS PROJECT!  That's where we begin.

All I did was attach this little wooden sign

and tie a pretty sheer ribbon into a bow.

It hangs on the front door.  All you need is LOVE and a red ribbon!

Framing Up Some Love

Valentine's Day is just around the corner.  My snowmen have been put back in the closet.  Now I am framing up some LOVE!  ;-)

I found THIS PRINTABLE at Fleece Fun (dot) com.  How pretty!  Angel actually created it in a gorgeous gold, but in my 1935 old rock farmhouse, gold just didn't feel quite right.  I printed it again in black and white, but didn't like the rose all gray!  ;-)  Compromise time!  I used the black and white letters with a red rose from the original color palette!  The paper is textured, off-white, resume weight in hopes of making the letters look a bit vintage.

Angel's letters are actually 4 x 6, but I didn't have enough 4 x 6 frames, so when I cut them out, I added a half inch all around the edges and then placed the letters in mis-matched 5 x 7 frames.  I absolutely *LOVE* the final results!

'Perfect on top of a black dresser against a red wall!  I may add some wedding photos around it!

What are your favorite Valentine's Day projects?

Silent Sunday (Sort of) - January in the Greenhouse

Mostly unedited photos of my greenhouse this month.  Enjoy!

I just planted some carrots!  These seeds were tucked in the wrong organizer and missed for Fall Planting.  We'll see how they perform in Winter!

How do you enjoy gardening in Winter?  What are you growing and how?  I would love to hear all about it!

Book Review: Daughters of the Samurai

by Janice P Nimura

Daughters of the Samurai

Partial Synopsis from Bas Bleu:  In 1871, as part of a grand modernization effort, the newly restored Meiji government in Japan sent five young women to the United States to study Western ways. Three of them remained for ten years, each trading her traditional samurai upbringing to live with a host family as a typical American schoolgirl.

My thoughts:  I found this book to be utterly fascinating!  When the girls first board the ship bound for America, the youngest one is only 7 years old and none of them can speak English.  How overwhelmed they must have felt!  Ten year later, when they returned to Japan, they struggled with their native language.  With their perseverance, though, girls in Japan were given educational opportunities beyond elementary school moving Japan toward much better conditions for women across their society.  I definitely recommend this book!

What have you been reading?

Step Challenge with my Workout Buddies at Hobbs State Park

Disclaimer:  This is NOT sponsored post.

For the past six months or so, there have been some crazy challenges between most of the fun girls in my workout classes!

It all begin when Edith got a FitBit and challenged everyone to 10,000 miles a day every day for the month of July.

So, some of us used apps on our phones while others hopped on the FitBit wagon, all of us trying to out-step the others!  ;-)

Eleven of us are having a friendly competition that began January 1 and goes until March 20.  We are calling it the Winter Challenge!

We are really just hoping to get back in the fitness groove after enjoying the holidays.  I certainly need some encouragement during these dark, cold months!  Do you?

Even though snow was in the forecast, I enjoyed these two lovely trails on a Saturday morning.

It was fun to get some steps AND learn about local history!

Historic Van Winkle as well as Sinking Stream are both part of the trail system at Hobbs State Park just east of Rogers, Arkansas.  There is one parking lot for both trails.  Van Winkle is completely wheel chair accessible with lots of informational plaques.

Do you have any tips on how to get a few more steps each day?

I can use all the help I can get AND will be sharing the info with my workout buddies!

LINK PARTY!! Tuesdays with a Twist

Would you like one more reason to celebrate this Tuesday?  Y'all know my current celebrity crush is Jason Pritchett.  Bull rider turned Country Music Singer.  What's not to like?  ;-)  Well, I placed an order  for his CD and a T-Shirt.  Guess what arrived?!

His CD and T-Shirt!  See?!  If you see me driving and singing at the TOP of my lungs, it's this CD, Independence Cowboy!  I think Handsome Husband is a bit concerned about my obsession enthusiasm.

Let's party!  ;-)
