This beauty was built in 1859.
The view at the top is worth climbing those 177 stairs.
Aren't they pretty?
I am not afraid of heights and I love roller coasters, but... I actually had a bit of a freak out when first stepping onto the top platform of the lighthouse.
Most of these photos were taken sitting down, leaning against the wall. 'Not sure what happened to me up there. Once I calmed down though it was a wonderful experience!
We happened to visit on a gorgeous sunny day.
The view is absolutely spectacular!
Their museum exhibit is very interesting.
This shot is looking out from their front porch. 'Too bad the power lines cross right there.
Marci these photos are spectacular. What a great trip to visit a lighthouse and to go so high up. Really great photos!
ReplyDeleteWe've visited several lighthouses in our journeys over the years. My favorites include those along the northeast coast. We haven't visited this one but hope to the next time we're in Gulf Shores. Thanks for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteYep, stepping out on the top platform freaked me out for a little bit, as well. I was hugging the wall.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! We've visited a few but not many around here are actually accessible. Most lighthouses are near shore and we can view them but not actually go inside them.
ReplyDeleteThis looks wonderful although because I don't like heights a little scary toi#goinggrenn@_karendennis
ReplyDeleteI had to click on this when I saw it on the #GoingGreen linky, because I live in Pensacola! I can't say I've made it up inside the lighthouse, but it is such a beautiful area. Did you go to the Naval Air Museum?
ReplyDeleteYes, we visited the Naval Air Museum first. It is really amazing! Next we climbed the lighthouse stairs and then ate at Flori-Bama! These photos bring back memories of a great day! ;-) -Marci
DeleteWonderful pictures... what a great place to visit. We have been to a few lighthouses, but not ones we could see inside.
ReplyDeleteWow! What views. Another place added to my travel list! Thanks so much for sharing those beautiful sights.

Lighthouses are my husbands favorites. Thanks for hosting and I hope you are having a great weekend.

We've not been to a lighthouse before. Thank you for the tour. #PoCoLo
