Book Review: Wideacre

by Philippa Gregory

A partial synopsis from the Author's Website:  Beatrice Lacey, as strong-minded as she is beautiful, refuses to conform to the social customs of her time.  Destined to lose her family name and beloved Wideacre estate once she is wed, Beatrice will use any means necessary to protect her ancestral heritage. Seduction, betrayal, even murder – Beatrice's passion is without apology or conscience.

My Thoughts:  My own childhood was filled with riding horses on a farm, but certainly not an estate as grand as Wideacre.  ;-)  This book is very well written with descriptions that made me feel as if I could reach out and touch what the author was conveying.  I loved the sections about the characters' horses, especially Sea Fern.  The main story line of Beatrice, though, her deceptions and betrayals, made me angry.  I wanted to defend and rescue her victims.  Philippa Gregory is definitely an author I would like to read more.

What have you been reading?
