Book Review: Library of Souls

The Third Novel of Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children

by Ransom Riggs

Partial Synopsis from the Author's Site:  Time is running out for the Peculiar Children.  With a dangerous mad man on the loose and their beloved Miss Peregrine still in danger, Jacob Portman and Emma Bloom are forced to stage the most daring of rescue missions.

My Thoughts:  I have the hardest time reviewing a sequel without blowing a plot line from previous novels.  The third book picks up right where the second one stops.  Jacob and Emma have grown closer and are even more resourceful.  Both have honed their skills with all they have faced.  Most of this story is staged in Devil's Acre where new Peculiar Characters are found, some are newfound friends while others will become adversaries.  Scene after scene is action packed as our heroic duo face impossible odds.  The ending on this one was another big surprise for me!  I would definitely recommend all three of these books, but the first was my favorite.  If I had it to do over, I would have certainly purchased the set!  ;-)

On another note, I purchased and watched the movie.  It was pretty disappointing for me.  In the books, Emma is a strong leader with excellent fighting skills.  The movie switches some of the peculiar powers and makes Emma more of a damsel in distress.  It seemed a bit behind the times.

What have you been reading?

  1. I just finished this one last night!!!! I loved it. Now i am hesitant to see the movie. Why do movies veer away from the books?
