Big Family Holiday Menu

My family is BIG!  I am the youngest child of six as is my mother.

My dad is the youngest child of eight.  (Some are missing in the photo below)  These days, our daughter and son-in-law are foster parents, so the number of grandchildren we have can change at just about any time.  'Told you my family is big!  ;-)  That moment of the holidays where you notice the house is too hot, too loud and way too full of people, well, that's my favorite part!  It makes me feel at home!

It's become our tradition to host Thanksgiving dinner.  Everyone is invited even if they can only stop by for dessert.  I have a wonderful time!  Handsome Husband can feel a little overwhelmed, but doesn't complain.  I'm glad he is on my team!

This menu worked really well for both of us this year.  Quite a bit of prep was done each evening a few days before.  During crunch time, OUR KITCHEN was all mine and Handsome Husband was outside with the smoker.  This may just be our "Go To Menu" forever!  I wanted to post it so I can remember for next time!  ;-)  This little blog is a handy reference tool for me.  ;-)

  1. It must be wonderful to be a part of a loving, close family. I've never had that, although I have a wonderful, close nuclear family. The menu looks delicious. I was just watching a tv showed called "Young Sheldon" I think and it was all about Grandma's Brisket. I've never even heard of a brisket before, and now I saw it again here. I would love to try it someday.

  2. I would love to see some of these recipes!

Like you, I use my own blog for a reference ; )

Thanks for a cool post - our family is comparatively small, but your old family pictures remind me of the pictures of my late Father's family : )

  3. You have described what I wish I had every year! The menu sounds divine! There are only three of us for Thanksgiving as my older daughters go off to their Grandmother's. We used to go out to eat or order in. This year we got to spend it with a friends large family and it was fun.

  7. Pleasepost the recipe for the cornbread stuffing. I make that every year too but this year was less than thrilled with it- I could use some pointers! And while you're at it...how 'bout that coconut cream pie?!

  9. I so appreciate what goes in to a big family meal. I am an almost only, but my husband is from a family of 12 and we have 6 kids ourselves. I make lists and plan or I might forget something, and it is always memorable - just what I want for our family.

  10. Your family get-togethers must be crazy fun!!! The only time we have that big a group is after a wedding or funeral, when I can get together with all of my cousins and brothers and sister-in-laws. We had a wonderful and bittersweet time after my mother passed in December of 2004. <3 I'm happy you can get your family together most of the time. Such a blessing even if it's crazy loud and busy! Pinning to my Holidays board for you.
