Cathedral of the Plains

St. Fidelis Church in Victoria, Kansas

On our way to Colorado, we drove across the beautiful State of Kansas.

Handsome Husband could see these spectacular steeples many miles before we reached Victoria.  (I was asleep.)

I'm so glad he decided to stop so we could take a closer look.

This cathedral was erected in the early 1900's.  One of the plaques we read said that each parishioner was responsible for hauling one load of stone.

At the time of its dedication, it was the largest church west of the Mississippi.  If you are curious, I found this link:  The Cathedral of the Plains.

If you live nearby this lovely church or know anything about its history, I would love to hear more about it!  Isn't it beautiful?

  7. What a treat to see my childhood "stomping grounds". I grew up not far from there, but like so many times as a a local I did not appreciate the architecture of the church or its history. Hope you got to take the tour inside. If so, you probably know more about it than I do!
