The Day I Almost Died at the Gym

I have to tell y'all what happened at the gym this week.

We all have a favorite treadmill, right?  I hop onto the very last treadmill 'cause it's my favorite and start my run.  I am just getting into a rhythm at around 3/10 of a mile, when out of nowhere, something lands.

ON.

MY.

HEAD.

I simultaneously grab It, throw It, leap onto the side board AND hit the emergency stop button.  All at the same time.  At this point, my heart rate is elevated.  I turn to the man three treadmills down, and using a loud, shrill voice that he may or may not have perceived as shrieking, said, "Did you see That?!  What was That?!  It landed.

ON.

MY.

HEAD."

All the while, I am frantically searching for It, thinking, oh, I don't know, Killer Wasp?  or maybe Angry Tarantula?  Then I saw It.

A little green katydid.

Whew!  What a relief!  I captured It and released It into the wild.  OK, actually, I released It into the parking lot in front of my gym.  You'll be glad to know the facitily is safe once again, but there was no way I was getting back on that treadmill today.

Oh, and to man three treadmills down...  I am so sorry about interrupting your peaceful workout!  There was a surprise katydid

ON.

MY.

 HEAD.

  3. Yeah would be one heck of shock to me too. Every time hubs comes into room where am concentrating on writing my comments or just reading posts I jump like old lady I am. Can be reading when he comes into room and I jump, good grief, have old ladyitis, eeeekk. Poor little katydid, they sure can jump. Hope your gym won't let any more in without membership. Sorry couldn't resist. Not making light of shock you got, really. Hope you have better week.

  6. OMG I probably would have done the same thing. Luckily is what just a katydid and not a giant tarantula!

  8. A katydid inside the gym? He took a ride on someone or something I guess. I would have freaked out too. I would have just "known" it was a huge spider, and it would have been hilarious seeing me flail and do a jig trying to get rid of it.

  9. Gyms are dangerous places. Best to stay out of them, I think. My exercise place of choice is the pool. Who knows what could be lurking in its depths!

  10. Haha! Sounds just like me when I think there might be a spider on me!! I am like Libby, I will head for the pool, no ocean, saw a shark between me and the beach last time and I was only in water up to my thighs (and I am short)!

  11. Ha! That is hilarious. Now. I can imagine that when it happened, it would have elevated your heart rate! Glad to hear that the story had a happy ending for everyone, including the katydid. :)
