Book Review: A Guide to Quality, Taste & Style

by Tim Gunn

From Good Reads:  If you are a fan of Tim Gunn, crisp grammar, fashion, and excellent vocabulary, then this book is for you.
My thoughts:  I am a fan of Tim's, so this book was definitely for me!  I felt the most useful tips are in the section about what to keep and what to toss from your closet.  Those of you who read my blog already know that I am on a fitness journey that has significantly changed my body.  (Thank you, CrossFit!)  In Tim's chapter titled Diagnosing the Common Closet under Items that Don't Fit he says, "There is no reason to have something taking up space in your closet that does not make you feel good.  These items must go."  Tim also tells us, "Clothes do not exist to humiliate their owners...  please be kind to yourself."

Wise words.  Thanks, Tim!

So, what are you reading?

  1. Oh! I don't think I need to read anything else! Just that quote alone-- was enough for me to absorb.
"clothes do not exist to humiliate their owners..."
    Thanks Marci!

  5. As the only male image on Patti's Visible Monday I had to come over and check him out! Love the quote. I am a hopeless case on the decluttering front but these thoughts may just help!

  6. I forgot to tell you what I'm currently reading. Just finished, 'The Outcast' by Sadie Jones which was a real page turner and had me desperately hoping that everything would turn out well for Lewis, the central character. Now I've started, 'At Mrs Lippincote's' by Elizabeth Taylor. She is one of my absolutely favourite authors and it's no surprise that I'm finding it a joy.

  7. I join you as a sister-fan-girl in the Gunn camp! He's such a thoughtful writer about how we all dress, and what we can do to make our wardrobes really work for us, as they should. He's funny fairly often, and has a thorough understanding of his own advice about making it "work." Not always an easy concept to explain, but he does! I read this when it first came out, and it's worth a second read. Thanks for the reminder!

  8. I attended a lecture by Tim Gunn a few years ago and was blown away by his view on life. He's a teacher at heart and truly has his students educations in his first thoughts. So inspiring.
