Literary Junkies {August}

It's time for Literary Junkies!  I hope you will participate by either answering some or all of the questions in comments below, or better yet, write a post and join the party!

Here are this month's questions:

1. What are you reading? Tell us about it!
I am still hooked on Jan Karon's books, currently reading In this Mountain and love it!  These are the sweetest books to read at bedtime.

2. Do you read one book at a time, or read multiple books at once?
Usually one book plus one Bible study.

3. What is the first book that made you fall in love with reading?
I remember my mother and older sister, Karen, reading to me before I could read.

4. Do you prefer a physical copy of the book or an electronic version?
Since I sit at a desk all day clicking away on a computer, I prefer physical copies of books.

5. What are three books currently on your To Be Read list?  Oh, gee!  My list is so very long...  I need to read faster!  Our upcoming Women's Bible Study for Fall is Beth Moore's Children of the Day.  It's been a long time since we did a Beth Moore study.  I'm really excited!

  1. Funny thing the older I get the less I read.
    Not long ago I was given about 30 hard cover novels all different sorts so I'm tackling them, if a book is gripping I can read it all in one go but that very rarely happens now usually it takes a long time to finish one, so I will often start another one.

  4. I love Beth Moore! I also agree with you on reading a physical copy of the book. :)

  5. 1) Currently reading: The Nazi Officer's Wife: How One Jewish Woman Survived the Holocaust. What can I say? When it comes to reading, I generally don't mess around. I go to the heavier stuff. I think the title says it all so...no explanation other than I read half of the 300 pages just yesterday without putting it down (and I don't usually make that much time for reading!).
    2) It's a little unusual for me to have more than one book going but not unheard of. I'm also currently reading Witness to Hope, The Biography of John Paul II for the second time--at over 1K pages (told you I don't mess around!), it's a hefty read but the history, especially of not just what he himself went through but all of Poland in WWII and later under Communist control, is amazing! I'm re-reading it slowly so that I can give it a good think and soak-in after a reading session. It's incredibly inspiring to read how God was part of every second of his life. What grace, what peace that he had--THAT is what I'm after!
    3) Not real sure but one of my earliest memories is of my sister reading to me a book called "Dinosaurs" and every time she said that word it was with the most dramatic and scary inflection ever. Hilarious. I was always crazy about books and learned to read quite proficiently before I even entered kindergarten.
    4) I love both--truly, there's nothing like the smell and feel of a book...but gosh darn it that mini-iPad is so stinking convenient, esp for travel, light weight and wow! you can have a book in seconds, rather than wait on Amazon to deliver or even just run to the library (First World probs...)!
    5) Uh....I believe I have somewhere in the ballpark of 160-something titles on my to-read list on Goodreads. And if you don't "Goodreads," you totally should! Best way to find and keep track of books, esp when I DO actually take the time to hit the library and need my handy "What I want to read" list.
