Book Review: The Women in Black

by Madeline St. John

A partial synopsis from Bas Bleu:  In 1950s Australia, the clerks of the Ladies' Frocks Department at Goode's Department Store prepare for the Christmas rush…all while struggling with the quiet dramas of their personal lives.

My thoughts:  How many friends have you made at work?  How often did your co-workers help you through rough patches?  These lovely main characters bond in the dress department, sharing their lunch breaks and personal struggles.  The author beautifully tells the story of their day to day lives as their friendships with one another grows.  For me, this was a light, charming, quick read.  'Very enjoyable!

What have you been reading?
