The Book of James, Illustrated by Me

Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures. The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen!

I'll be sharing a couple of links in this post, giving credit for the inspiration as well as the project.  So this journey begins waaaaay back in May.  One of my Tuesdays with a Twist link party features was Bible Journaling from Paulette's Papers.  The idea of drawing and illustrating in my Bible was new to me and sound very exciting!  Since then, I've been looking for ways to get started.  Did you noticed my very first post published about it?  Here it is:  The Gospel of Luke, Illustrations by Me.

My current devotional had a lesson called "Cancel Comparisons" based on James 3:16-17 specifically, "Wherever you find jealousy and fighting, there will be trouble and every other kind of wrong doing.  But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure.  Then it gives peace...It is full of loving kindness...It has no doubts and does not pretend to be something it is not."  NIV

The message for me in this lesson is that wisdom from above is all about love and peace.

My illustration starts with bits of paper, stickers and scraps from my stash.  Next came a Charley Harper inspired Cardinal Art Lesson from The Lost Sock.  I learned how to make this amazing cardinal!

Then I added a few more bits from my stash.

Since creating this page, I've been studying the Book of James.  There are a couple more illustrations coming soon!  ;-)  What have you been pinning?

;-)  -Marci

  8. So lovely, I've seen Paulette's gorgeous bible journalling too.
I'm curious, is this a piece of solo art, or is it in a art journal or do you have a bible with spaces for this kind of art in it?

    1. Hi, Julie - Thank you for the question. This particular illustration is placed inside a devotional. I do have one of the DaySpring Illustrating Bibles as they offer wider margins and thicker pages. Did you see my post "The Gospel of Luke, Illustrated by Me"? It was published December 30, 2018. That artwork is in my Illustrating Bible and you can see the page layout in those photos. Will you please let me know if you have additional questions? -Marci

  12. I love the idea of making meaning out of art expression. It just speaks more to the soul...at least for me. The colors you chose are very nice as is the details of your cardinal.

  13. Beautiful. Love the red cardinal. Do you keep these in a journal or do you display them as art?
