Are you ready for another craft challenge? This time, we've been asked to upcycle glass, plastic or metal. My choice is metal.
Meet the co-hosts!
My project actually began with three feathers purchased at Fin & Feather Fall Festival last year. The poor things have been waiting for me to make a decision about how to use them. {sigh} Thank goodness this challenge came along! I love chimes, but needed more than three objects.
A scruffy metal cake pan was found. I drew stars on the back and Handsome Husband cut them with a die grinder. Somewhere in the middle of planning, I stumbled across old rabies tags for our pets. Hmmm... Maybe something small would be nice? Except for the feathers, everything got a quick zip of silver spray paint.
An eighteen inch piece of river cane was cut. Holes were drilled to thread the chimes. I like the look of this, but even in a nice breeze, it doesn't make any noise.
😒
Ribbon was added from my stash.
This version makes me think of the song "Vincent", specifically "paint your pallet blue and gray"
which makes me think of Van Gogh's famous painting, "Starry Night". More colorful ribbon was added.
I'm calling my project a mobile and actually like all three versions, even though it's not the chime I was expecting. Which one is your favorite?
Take a look at how everyone met the upcycle challenge!

My favorite version of your mobile is the one with only the blue and silver ribbon. I'm so sorry it doesn't make beautiful music like you had hoped, but it is an extremely creative idea, and I love how you selected the name for it! It's so winterish and cozy!
ReplyDeleteI love mobiles and yours looks great, Marci. I think my favorite is the one without the ribbons. I like seeing the various shapes and designs of the baubles you added.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and unique creation, Marci! This is so cool!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea!! I love the old dog tags. I wonder if you were to stagger the feather and stars , they would chime against each other more?
ReplyDeleteI love stars and this is such a cute idea!
ReplyDeleteOh, this is fabulous! I love the simplicity of the first one without ribbons. Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing at Sweet Inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! My favorite is the second one, with the blue and shimmering gray ribbons.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing at The Really Crafty Link Party. Pinned.
Marci, this is spectacular! What a wonderful way to use and upcycle. The wind chime mobile is such a great idea and I love that you showed several variations here as well. I totally want to try this! Pinnine.
ReplyDeleteThose feathers are awesome! Great way to use them. Pinned!
