Herbs: A Place to Begin - Rosemary and Garlic Infused Olive Oil

Being part of our county's Master Gardener Speakers Guild is a lot of fun. My program is titled "Herbs: A Place to Begin". It is for anyone who might be curious about growing herbs or is just beginning to use them. I give simple advice for ways to incorporate tasty herbs into your every day life. After such a sweet reception to my presentation, I will be adding regular posts about herbs to my blog.

Watch for the ones titled "A Place to Begin" and check out my blog page Herbs.

Wow!  It's been ages since I wrote anything about herbs.  Surprise!  ;-)  Today we are talking about a simple oil infusion.

You will need:

2 Clean Jars with lids
1 cup of your favorite Olive Oil
2 Cloves Garlic, chopped
3 - 4 sprigs of Rosemary, about two inches long

I am re-using clean jelly jars for this tasty project.  Those gingham lids always make me smile!  ;-)  Place the oil, garlic and rosemary leaves into a jar.  Simply let it hang out on a sunny window sill for a day to warm the oil gently and then rest overnight.

I like to use my coffee basket and filter to strain the herbs on these small jars.  Use whatever strainer works best for you.

This beautiful oil is delicious brushed on vegetables heading for the grill.  We also love it on chicken and bread.

Which herbs are your favorites?

;-)  -Marci

  4. I've just recently started using infused oils. I found a great local shop near me that sells the oil and some wonderful balsamic vinegars. I hadn't even considered making my own, but you've made it sound pretty simple, so I might give it a go. Thanks for sharing this recipe at #BloggingGrandmothersLinkParty!

  8. Great idea, and simple too - the flavoured oils in the shops are pricey and this shows it's easy to do at home. Thanks for sharing with #PoCoLo
