Garden Guest: Our Favorite Neighbor

The north side of our front yard is a certified  National Wildlife Federation Backyard Habitat.  Really!  We have a certificate!  You can do the same by providing food, water, cover and places for wildlife to raise their young.  It is so much fun to see all of the critters that stop by for a visit.  Children love it!

I have a series of posts to show you our Garden Guests.  If you would like to see more posts like this one, please hop over to my Garden Page.

There's an old milk barn on our property that Handsome Husband uses for a shop.  Ladders hang on the outside.

When robins built their nest on one of the step ladder platforms, we were a little worried about what our Labradors might do.  If the babies fly to the right, they land safely outside the fence.  If they fly straight ahead, they land very near our garden, which is also refuge as it is enclosed and Labrador-proof.  If the babies fly left, though, they are landing in a danger zone.

Handsome Husband rescued this little one and shared it with Our Favorite Neighbor before releasing to its frantic parents.  She was very gentle.

She laughed when it wiggled, but she didn't squish it!  Our Favorite Neighbor visits most evenings to help feed the chickens and water the plants.  We love having children in the garden!

What's happening in your back yard?
