Lavender and Kiwi

It's been quite some time since any pets appeared on my blog.  I don't think you've met Kiwi and Lavender, our sweet Guinea Pigs.  Aren't they cute?

They've only been members of our family since early August.  Kiwi is the color of her name and Lavender is more reddish.  One of our neighbors says they look like Corgis with their round bodies and short legs.   Normally, these cuties are in a larger cage inside our home, but when it's being cleaned, they are outside in this little play pen.  I move it to a different spot each time, so there is always something nice to forage.

Like any member of the rodent family, Guinea Pig teeth do not stop growing.  Constantly chewing keeps their incisors worn to a healthy level.  Not only are they fed pellets and Timothy hay, they also get lots of fresh vegetables each day.  While outside, our piglets seem to enjoy grazing on whatever lands in their play pen and stretching out in cool the grass.  I have a canvas cover for their play pen, which Handsome Husband says looks like a circus tent.  'Seems appropriate for our house!

What are your favorite pets?

  1. I had guinea pigs all thr way into high school. The last one got to run in our back yard and would come to the door when I would squeak for him. - Margy

  2. Aw, so cute. My daughter had 2 guinea pigs, Vanessa and Molly. They both lived to be about 6 and 7 years old. They were so fun. (They were higher maintenance than anticipated, too!) Thanks for sharing them with us at the TFT party!

  3. So cute! I raised a pair of long-haired Peruvian guinea pigs and then kept three of their offsprings from two different litters as part of being in 4H. One was a rare red haired. I loved them. My dad and grandfather built a large, two level cage, with a ramp between the two that I could raise to keep them separated at times. I loved how they whistled to be fed. A happy memory.
