Watering Can Restoration

I'm super excited to bring you a new challenge this month!

The Rules are pretty simple:  Upcycle an item(s) from a thrift store, resale store, or garage sale into a new piece of decor.  There's no monthly theme.  There's no budget to stick to.  See!  Easy peasy, right?

Here's where we begin.  A dusty, rusty little treasure that just needs some attention.  If you look closely at the watering can, you can see the bottom is pushed out and broken on one side.  That's OK for what I'm planning!

While I adore the galvanized look, this is going to be a gift.  The recipient's home is a lovely farmhouse decorated in soft pastels.  She recently mentioned wanting new house plants.  I think some of the metal should stay, so I tape off the handle, tip of the spout and just around the top.  A bit of spray paint in heirloom rose and some washi tape come next.

I think this washi tape was in one of my Women of the Bible kits from Dayspring, but I'm not completely sure.  There are several rolls of washi tape in my tornado of a craft room.  I love the pattern of all those leaves!

'Speaking of leaves...  ;-)  This fern was the perfect size for my small watering can!

I still need to choose a saucer or bowl to catch any drips, but am pleased with my Watering Can Restoration!

Just a reminder.  Here's the before image.

Here's the after.

I even have a collage for you to pin!

  1. Hey Marci! I think we were thinking somewhat alike in updating a metal watering can! It just goes to show that there are so many ways to transform similar great finds! Love the colors you chose and adding washi tape was the perfect touch for a lovely look!
