When these Favorite Family Recipe challenges come around, I always feel sentimental and get a bit misty.
It's always exciting to see what everyone brings to the table! (pun intended)

Since our posts will publish the day after Veteran's Day, this handsome fellow came to mind. He is my Daddy's brother, Bert, who retired from the Army ages ago. As a child, we would visit my grandparents' farm and Uncle Bert would let us ride in the back of his truck when he went to check the cows. We followed him pretty much everywhere he went, and he had a way of making us feel welcome.
After his passing, I am very blessed to have been trusted with his military records along with this treasure.
Most of this program from the 1982 VFW National Convention is still readable, which is very interesting, but my Uncle Bert also taped all kinds of recipes inside it. Notice his note on the front, Bert's Chili, Page 11. Let's take a look.
Bert's Favorite Chili is written at the bottom. Seeing his handwriting brings tears to my eyes. Colder days seem to make chili taste better, right? And four pounds of ground chuck isn't going to hurt the flavor, either! ;-)
Here's the rest of Page 11. I have all the ingredients for that granola. It sounds really good, too!
For more amazing recipes, just keep reading!
