Mini Gourd Makeovers - Monthly De Stash Challenge

One of my many hobbies is growing, drying and decorating gourds.  You can find posts on my blog's Garden Page as well as the Crafts Page!

Once dried, gourds will last for many years as long as they are stored in a dry location.  I have quite a collection in my stash along with several colors of spray paint.  That's where my monthly de-stash challenge begins!  ;-)  Every month a group of bloggers are challenged by C'mon Get Crafty to create a new craft or project from their own stash of goodies! Check out some awesome creations you might be able to make from your own stash! #CraftRoomDestashChallenge

This basket has been tucked away in my Craft Room, a hodgepodge of past projects.  Some colors have faded.  Those are the mini gourds that will be getting a makeover.  The browns and golds will probably always be my favorites.

These were actually my very First Gourd Project.  If you'd like to see the original post just click HERE or how they became a Bountiful Harvest Wreath, click HERE.  Each Fall, I usually arrange them something like this.

This year though, I wanted a bit more drama.  Maybe something black with a little leopard washi tape?  Out came the black spray paint.  Presto Change-O.  Yeah!  That did the trick!  Here's an arrangement that feels like Autumn to me with just a touch of drama.

Who can stop with just one color of spray paint?  Not me.  ;-)  Presto Change-O.

Can you guess the inspiration of this combo?  Yep!  Candy Corn!  I love the vibrant colors!

We will be hosting a party in October.  What do you think of this back drop?  The white paint is left over from my Front Door Refresh and brushed onto the gourd.  (I need to touch up my finger prints at the bottom.  Eesh!)  The yellow and orange gourds were spray painted.

As for these gray and purple gourds, you'll just have to come back to see what they become.  There is a CRAZY idea bumping around inside my head that, hopefully, I can execute!

This month's de-stash challenge only cost me $4, which was for the Candy Corn.  I purchased two tubs for $2 each to fill the tall decanter.  Everything else was already on hand.

What would you create with mini gourds?  Do you have the supplies in your stash?

If so, join me and these amazing bloggers for a Monthly De-Stash Challenge!

  1. Now they turned out lovely and I love the idea that they last forever if treated well ;-) How handy when you can go find them every fall, start decorating and add to the mix.

  2. I never realized gourds can last if stored properly. I like all of your versions, but for fall the bright yellow and orange are perfect.

  3. I have some that are probably 10 or more years old. For me it's hit-or-miss as to whether they get moldy or dry out haha! I love the black with the washi tape and the candy corn vignette is adorable!!

  5. I already love gourds for their nubby textures and funky shapes but who can resist one with leopard print? Awesome!

  9. What a wonderful idea. Using things you already have. I always tossed mu gourds after the season. How sad I am about that! However, this years' purchase will be the beginning of my stash of gourds. Thank you for partying with Blogging Grandmothers. I have shared your article on social media.
