Favorite Family Recipe - Applesauce Cake and Fruit Cake

I have another handwritten recipe for y'all today!  It's kinda funny just how happy it makes me to convert these cherished keepsakes into digital format.  There's a big goofy grin on my face thru all the scanning and editing.  ;-)

So, this recipe is from a sweet family friend my mom has known since their high school days.  I wish I had a photo to share of Nancy Sue.

My pretty Momma when she was in high school

Her Applesauce Cake is Handsome Husband's favorite.

You can see she wrote it down for me way back in 1991 and even explained how to make fruit cake with it.

Can you tell these cards have been visited many times?  What are your favorite family recipes?

;-)  -Marci

  1. It's so awesome that you have handwritten recipes saved to share! No doubt this is a wonderful recipe! Thanks so much for sharing it!

  2. Love the idea of doing this. Love the beautiful picture and the handwriting. I don't think I have many handwritten cards as I copied most that I wanted from others but now you have me thinking!

  3. I just love theses, I also have some cherished recipes written long hand. I also think I have an apple sauce cake recipe from my aunt! I'm going to to compare them. Lol!

  4. I enjoy looking at my mom's handwritten recipes. I have some written on the same recipe cards.
    This one sounds so good.\\
    Wishes for tasty dishes,

  5. This recipe of your mom's from her friend looks delicious! I've G+ and will put over on my Yummy! board on Pinterest (that way I can find it again!). Love applesauce and have some in the frig that needs using up.

    Thank you for the recipe,
    Barb :)

  6. There is nothing better than being able to recreate what our mom's once cooked for us.

  7. This is a wonderful post. Such a simple gesture with a wide effect. Love it.

  8. Love your photos and the handwritten recipe. I love mine with my grandmother's handwriting. Thank you.

  9. I love handwritten recipes! I have my grandmother's and a few from my mother-in-law. Such treasures.

  10. Sounds yummy! Your mom was a cutie.

  11. Handwritten recipes always seem to be the best! Thanks for sharing!

  12. Marci, what a treasure. How I'd love to have handwritten recipes from my mother and grandmothers. What I like about the recipe is the subtle use of spices; I don't like when the apple and raisin flavors are drowned out by too much spice.

Thank you for visiting my Stone Cottage! I love hearing from you! Just recently, though, anonymous comments have been blocked.
