DIY Double Duty Door Hanger

It's fun to have decor for every season, except for that part where favorite pieces need to be stored for the other eleven months of the year.  Wouldn't it be nice if door hangers pulled some double duty?  'Remember this darling kissing booth sign?

I thought it was a sweet spin on vintage Valentine's Day.  (See my complete post about it HERE)

Here are all the participants for today's challenge:

DIY Double Duty Door Hanger

Supplies:

Back of an already cute sign - mine measures just a little over 11" by 18"

White, Light Blue, and Dark Green Acrylic Paint

Floral Napkin

Mod Podge

Coordinating Ribbon

Paint Brushes and a Cut File

Check it out.  A blank canvas!  All it needs is a little paint, which, of course, I happen to have.

Here are my choices for this project.

After a base coat of white, I swirled swished some light blue with white.

It took a little experimenting to decide on the proportion of my letters.  Four inches was too big.

Once the size felt right, stenciling began in dark green.  Next I outlined the state of Arkansas lightly in pencil.  Flowers were snipped from a napkin and decoupaged onto the shape of my state.

I love the soft blue against the rusty red of our stone cottage.  My only expense was the state of Arkansas cut file.

What's pulling double duty around your home?

  1. That's clever, I love the idea of making signs do double duty!
I confess I didn't spot the state shape until you pointed it out, at first glance I thought that was a tea cup!! - (now planning a home sign with a tea cup!)

  2. How creative and unique to turn a favorite sign into two favorite signs, Marci! What a great idea and a fun and easy way to repurpose, too! Well done!

  3. What a fun way to give the sign a dual message. The flowers from the napkin look great.

  4. This is a cute little sign! I love reusing Dollar Tree signs. Being able to personalize it for your home is so great. Pinned. Great hopping with you!
