Vintage Angels Sing

My inspiration comes from American Farmhouse Style magazine.  How CUTE are these?!  Sadly, when I went shopping for these specific items, not everything was available.  I didn't let that stop me!

Lots of felt, rick rack, buttons, and sparkly doo dads are already in my stash.

The cones I found were much larger, but I think exaggerated proportions are fun!

The magazine's directions were great, but I was not working anywhere close to the same sizes.  To cover your cone, place the point in a corner and roll the fabric around it, gluing as you go.  Trim excess cloth away from your cone.  

The peppermint stripe is actually an old, long sleeve T-shirt that had a crazy snag on the tummy.  'So glad I kept it!  For my tallest cone, the fabric from the back of the shirt worked well.  The two shorter ones were slid into each of the sleeves.

The robe was cut from green felt.  Worried it might slide, a corsage pin was pushed through the collar and into the paper mache.  I used a pin to attach the arms as well.

Here's our base character.  This idea would certainly work for shepherds or wise men, but today, we are making angels!  It took me a while to figure out their hair!

Here's what worked well or long, thick hair.  Ribbon from my stash was cut 9 - 10 inches long, then folded in half, and stacked onto a T pin.  The pile of ribbon was pressed into the center of my styrofoam head.

Next the ribbon was spread around half of the styrofoam ball.  Lastly, I glued one more strip of ribbon across the top to cover the T pin.

The wings are actually cardstock butterflies cut using my Silhouette cutting machine.

A bit of bling was added here and there.  That's the fun part!
