Artist Trading Cards and Upcycle Challenge

These wonderful bloggers have given another craft challenge!

This time we are up cycling wood, cardboard or paper.

My project began by digging thru the toy box for some busted up decks of cards.  The kiddos play with them like they are money, but I plan to make my very first Artist Trading Cards as they are almost the perfect size!  Some junk mail was also tossed into the mix.

First they become a lovely soft pink with this stuff.

I found it at Target.

My inspiration came from a couple of directions, but both are from my home in the Ozark Mountains.  The rough painting on the horizontal card was inspired by a sunrise photo I took when we were camping at Beaver Lake during Winter.

As for the two upright ones, they will be Part 1 and Part 2 of my "Call Home" Set.

Here in Arkansas, we are home to only one SEC team, The University of Arkansas Razorbacks.  (If you aren't familiar, Razorbacks are a type of wild hog which still live in rural parts of our state.  They roam in families and can be territorial and quite aggressive.)  Listed as one of the most unique collegiate traditions on Varsity (dot) com, throughout games, during pep rallies, and really, for just about any ol' excuse, Razorback fans love to "call the Hogs".

So, let's get back to my project.  The business section for "Hog" and "Razorback" were cut from an old phone book and glued to the cards.  About a teaspoon of wet coffee grounds were sprinkled across them to give a stained texture.

Next, I played with pens and stamp pads until I was happy.  The completed pieces were then glued to a heavy piece of card stock for a framed effect.

A Bible verse was added to "Winter Sunrise".

Here's Part 1 and Part 2 of  "Call Home".  BTW...  My flash caught the green rhinestone funny.  The twinkle in his eye isn't that creepy looking in real life.  ;-)

'Just curious.  If you were going to create a little art inspired by your home, what would be included?

I've gone a little crazy making Artist Trading Cards.  Please come back to see what these become!

  2. I love how you repurposed old stray cards from the toybox! If I were doing a card to describe home, it'd have to include a dog and probably some sort of boardgame element.

  8. I don't know what artist trading cards are, but what a cool idea to paint cards like that! I'm thinking these might work in those Project Life scrapbooking pages, too.
