Learning Water Color Resist

Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you.  Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.  Philippians 2:14-15

If you've been reading my blog much lately, you may have noticed quite a few posts about illustrating my Bible.  In a Bible Journaling Facebook group a fellow participant called it "praying in color".

Yes!  That is exactly how I feel about it!  "Praying in color"  I love this new-to-me way of being immersed in my Bible!

In the February Pinterest Challenge, one of the links caught my eye and immediately made me think of Philippians.  The Inspiration Vault  shared the cutest Water Color Resist Bunny.  I had to give her technique a try!  That's another cool thing about illustrating my Bible.  Pictures will form in my head as I study, so then I have to go find out how to achieve that look.  It's a wonderful learning experience on multiple levels.

My first attempt at water color resist was a complete disaster.  The design was just done quickly for practice.  I made the mistake of peeling the resist while the water color was still wet.  Much of my paper was torn.

With lessons under my belt, I used a darling free printable from Bible Journaling Ministries.  This time I had better success with the resist, but had drawn WAAAAAAY too much detail and didn't really care for so many colors.  Back to the drawing board.  Literally.   hahaha!

Here's the resist with the night sky in water color blue.  I'm using a marble looking beige card stock for the base.

Here we are after the paint was completely dry and the resist was peeled away.  I colored the lights with yellow and orange colored pencils and then did details in a black gel pen.  Next stickers to spell " B R I G H T "  were placed and outlined using the same black gel pen.  Washi tape holds it inside my devotional.

What have you been learning lately?
