Remembering My Family

The baby in this photograph is my Daddy, being held by his Dad.  Considering the size of that cute little guy, I am guessing the picture was snapped in 1930.

These dear family members are in heaven now.  Most of their bodies are buried in the same cemetery.  Decoration for this particular plot is later in August.  It is the time of year for our community to remember loved ones.

My blog has been somewhat quiet as I create bouquets for the event.  There's something very soothing about arranging flowers for people I love.  It's interesting how certain plants will always remind me of specific relatives.




The completed arrangements are waiting on top of our piano.  None of them are exactly the same.

Our guest bedroom has been filled with forms and silk flowers.

This foam shape seems to work best for me.

My brain needs a grid.  ;-)  It is drawn easily enough.

The vases at this particular family cemetery are very close to the headstones.

My bouquets are half circles.

The most difficult part is choosing three bunches that look pretty together.  Frankly, I love all kinds of color combinations.  Once the decision is finally made, wire cutters are used to snip each silk flower a 6" long stem.  Lower leaves are pushed toward the outer tip.

Alternating colors, here's how I begin the first row.

Take a look at the front view after two rows.  The stems get a little longer as I work my way toward the top.

Yellow roses are for my Daddy and his parents.

Pink roses are for my Great Aunt Drue.

Well, you get the idea.  Each bouquet is created for a specific person.  While I look forward to seeing everyone that can come to Decoration, it makes me feel awfully sentimental for the ones we are remembering.  I am very blessed to be part of a big family filled with good people.
