Burrowing Owl near Cimarron

If you enjoyed my post about Cimarron Pets, you just might like this one, too!  ;-)

Just to the east of Cimarron was a pretty large Prairie Dog Town and Handsome Husband saw a little owl.  Y'all know what happened next.  I shouted, "Stop the car!"  ;-)  It's a good thing I married a patient man.

A bit of research taught me that Burrowing Owl populations are declining.  Adult weights are only about 5 ounces.  Unlike most other owls, these usually hunt during the day.

This lovely Burrowing Owl was pretty far from the highway, so the biggest lens was used for my camera.  While the shots aren't great, I was pretty stoked to have captured a photo of this beautiful tiny creature on the prairie.

  9. What a great experience to capture the photo. My Hubby is patient with photos, too, when I get excited about something I see out the car window :)
