Book Review: James Herriot's Treasury for Children

written by James Herriot
illustrated by Ruth Brown and Peter Barrett

Partial synopsis from Bas Bleu Beloved writer and country veterinarian James Herriot is most famous for his charming semi-autobiographical novels about caring for pets and livestock in rural mid-twentieth-century Yorkshire. Fans (and newcomers) will be thrilled to know he also wrote eight delightful books for children that shared his warm humor and love for animals.

My Thoughts:  This is such a sweet collection of children's stories!  If you have any young readers just beginning their journey into chapter books, this would be a perfect addition to their library.  Any animal lover will be charmed by the darling animals and their gentle caretakers who star in this lovely book.

What have you been reading?

  3. I made note to see if my nephew has this or not. I love anything with animals as long as they're happy stories.

  8. My grandmother was a huge Herriot fan, and when I was over there for holidays and summers I often curled up next to fire with one of his books. IT brings back wonderful memories.

I also remember PBS airing serialized episodes of his novels, or perhaps they were tele-adaptations, I can't recall. But I do believe it had Peter Davidson in it- absolutely charming:)

    Thank you for the share!
