The Gospel of Luke, Illustrations by Me

Holy Bible

A partial synopsis from Insight for Living Luke’s interest in people is undeniable. Much of the material unique to Luke’s gospel involves Jesus’s interactions with individuals, many of them on the fringes of “acceptable” society—sinners, women, and children among them. Like Matthew and Mark, Luke recorded the incident of a woman coming to pour perfume on Jesus’s feet. But Luke was the only gospel writer to point out the fact known to all present that she was an immoral woman (Luke 7:37). In a similar way, we find in Luke alone the conversation between the robbers crucified alongside Jesus, one of them defending Jesus and receiving the promise of paradise. Luke’s portrayal of Jesus reveals in our Lord a man come to minister and show compassion to all people, no matter their station in life.

My Thoughts:  The Bible Journaling / Illustrating bug has bitten me!  I participated in a challenge to read one chapter of Luke each day during the month of December.  It's such a beautiful story, my reading was finished much earlier than one month.

And now, for illustrating...

The hot air balloon is my first attempt, based on Luke Chapter 12 verses 22 - 34, specifically "Consider the ravens...  Aren't you worth much more than the birds?"  Luke 12:24  The balloon was inspired by and created through an art lesson from The Lost Sock.

Luke Chapter 1 inspired my second illustration.  The items around the title are pre-made and from my scrap book stash.  They've been outlined and a few ink dots added in black.  The little baby carriage is a stamp that has been colored blue.  I remember being so excited when we realized our little family was being blessed each time a new baby was on the way.  Gabriel gets to share that amazing information with Zechariah and again with Mary.  "I was sent to speak to you and tell you this good news."  Luke 1:19

Being very visual, it's wonderful to have such a creative way to study my Bible!

What have you been reading?  Do you journal or illustrate?
