First of all, Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and family in the US!
I am co-hosting a Winter Holiday Link Party later today. New as well as older posts are welcome as long as they fit the theme and are family friendly. Please come back, OK?
Right now, though, this is my post where I join other bloggers for a monthly challenge to create from what we havehoarded stashed in craft supplies, spending no more than $10 for miscellaneous bits like glue or ribbon.

My project was completely inspired by this DIY Graphic Pillow post at The Boondocks Blog. Hers is for Autumn, but I am just now getting around to it ;-) so mine is for Winter!
Is anyone else a fan of The Sound of Music? This scene is my favorite! (see what I did there?)
I translated a few lines from the song My Favorite Things into graphic designs for heat transfer paper and put my cutting machine and iron to work!
'Notice the steam? Those silver shapes are from the center of the snowflakes. |
Next the fabric was stitched into envelope covers for pillows already on hand.
I think they will work for most of the winter, but in my plan for Christmas, the pillows will be styled alongside this vintage doll somehow and our gifts will be wrapped in brown paper with either string or ribbon and hand stamped gift tags. You know our cat will be smack in the middle of it, which is another line from the song!
Her white dress was purchased and a blue satin sash was added to fit into our theme. I hope I can sew a pair of shoes for her. We'll see!
Can you imagine something like this with brown packages and a tree? (After Thanksgiving, of course!) 'Just curious... When do you start decorating for Christmas? What are your Favorite Things?
You are welcome to join a group of bloggers who are challenged every month by C'mon Get Crafty to create a new craft or project from their own stash of goodies! Check out some awesome creations you might be able to make from your own stash!

I love this!! (And now that song will be stuck with me all day haha!) A great idea to incorporate the song into the pillows and I love the fabrics.
ReplyDeleteCute pillows! Love the Sound of Music-inspired mittens pillow. Visiting from 2017 Holiday Link Party Hop.
ReplyDeleteOh, those are so so pretty!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting the Holiday Link Party. ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to change up your decor!
ReplyDeleteMarci, The pillows are wonderful and will look great all winter long! Pinning to share.
ReplyDeleteMarci, what a lovely idea to make pillows based on The Sound of Music! I loved that whole movie! I adore your pillows too! Pinned. Visiting from the Challenge.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I love it! I love that song at Christmas and to incorporate that into your pillow design is so cool. What machine cutter do you use that can cut fabric like that into appliques? I totally need one of those because I use fabric and sew more than paper crafts. Thanks so much for the idea. pinned:)
ReplyDeleteMarci I am a huge fan of the sound of music. I think your pillows are awesome! And we have to give thanks to Nikki Frank Hamilton for providing us with a great tutorial.
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty pillow covers, Marci. My Christmas decorating doesn't begin until after Thanksgiving either. It just seems odd to host Thanksgiving with Christmas decor all around. I did that a few years ago and it just didn't suit me. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving. Pinning and Sharing.
ReplyDeleteReally cute pillows, perfect for winter. Pinned to share.
ReplyDeleteI love cute pillows, and these are definitely cute! I especially love the snowfake pillow and the mittens pillow. Pinning!
ReplyDeleteI am a huge Sound of Music fan! These pillows are awesome. I don't typically start decorating for Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving but I do start some Christmas crafts before that so I can have enough time to finish everything by the big day.
ReplyDeleteI adore these pillows. But then The Sound of Music is one of my all time favorite shows. I wore out 4 records of the Broadway soundtrack before starting on the movie soundtrack. The pillows are perfection in every way.
ReplyDeleteWhipping up those covers sounds so easy. How come I always keep pushing project like this away for one day? I like that you used the leftover bits from the snowflakes for the steam. Your eye for detail is admirable. I bet you will have a wonderful warm Christmas nook with those pillows, the doll and wonderfully wrapped pressies.
ReplyDeleteLove the pillows! Thank you for sharing at The Really Crafty Link Party this week. Pinned!
ReplyDeleteHello - just popping in from the We are Pinnable party. Love those pillows! Thanks for sharing your creative ideas with your readers.

These pillows are perfect for the holiday season. My favorite is the tea pot. New decorative pillow covers are on my 'to do' list, but we shall see if I can make some.
ReplyDeleteThis is my type of DIY! Quick and easy and it looks beautiful! I'm going to give it a go. Thanks for the tutorial
ReplyDeletePopping by again to let you know I'll be featuring this at today's Snickerdoodle Party! Thanks for partying with us, Marci!
