This month, I am hoping to lower my pile of fabric scraps. Have you ever seen such a mess?
My crazy plan is to sew these CUTE covers for small packages of tissue. I think they would be great in the girls' backpacks and desks as they head back to school. 'Not sure if our boys will like them, but wouldn't they be great for teacher gifts?! It seems like there are lots of sniffles and sneezes at the beginning of the school year. It's nice to have a pack of tissue nearby!
The inspiration and FREE tutorial came from THIS POST at Threading My Way! I love Pam's blog!
There are so many options for making these pretty little pocket packs. You could use up to five different fabrics for more of a patchwork look or just use one. It all depends on your preferences and your stash! ;-)

For some of these, I used wide ribbon on the shorter side instead of fabric. Total bonus! I got to lower the ribbon stash, too! Woot woot!
I didn't use elastic on all of them, but really like the ones that have it. Here's how they look in the back. Oh, and can we talk for just a sec about that Hello Kitty fabric?
{Heavy Sigh}
I really should have been more mindful about the pattern placement. Only one of these covers say "Hello, Kitty!" The other two say, "Where's the Kitty?" Live and learn, right? Another lesson... It's easier to photograph these without the tissues in them. The tissue doesn't always want to pose nicely.
Here are a couple of covers that are done in school colors. To me, this is where the ribbon seemed most effective. I followed the tutorial, except pinned the ribbon closer to the center so that it didn't get caught in the end seam.
The orange and black is for a local high school, but it would be perfect for Halloween, too!
So far, I've made twelve of these pretty little pocket packs. What's in your stash?
Cute! I really like the ribbon additions. I need to whip up some of these for school for my teacher neighbors {and me!}. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. Not only for teacher's gifts and the girls backpacks but for carrying tissues in my purse.
ReplyDeleteWow! I love these! Anything beats the boring plastic tissue holders. These would be easier to find in the purse. I'm always needing a tissue, & I NEVER have any...LOL. I love the bits of fabric you used, & hooray for working down through the scrap stash. Boy, do I ever need to do that myself!! Pinned
ReplyDeleteThese would make great stocking stuffers or a youth project. Nice!
ReplyDeleteGood job using up some of the fabric stash, Marci. Your tissue pack holders look great. Clever idea to use the wide ribbon. Thanks heaps for the mention and link back.
ReplyDeleteI spend more money on pretty tissue packs, when I'd really rather have one of these! Lovely!
ReplyDeleteWaaaaaa! I love them <3 I have a gazillion different fabrics in my craft room. I think trying out funky color and pattern mixes will be so much fun!
ReplyDeleteHey my friend, I noticed that the two links to the other blog open in the same window instead of a new one. Maybe you want to change that so you don't loose your readers ;-)
