Book Review: Bedtime is Canceled

Bedtime is Canceled

Here's what Bas Bleu has to say about it:

When Maggie and her brother present a note announcing "Bedtime is canceled," their parents aren't buying it. But then the bulletin gets picked up by a reporter, who prints it in the paper. The news spreads fast, and all night, beds remain un–slept in, toys stay out, and children play endless games of hide-and-seek. The next morning everyone is so tired that breakfast is a mess, clothes are put on backward, and school gets out very late because the teachers are napping. Maggie realizes she must figure out how to reinstate bedtime ASAP! A delightfully quirky tale with hilarious illustrations, Bedtime Is Canceled will appeal to both grown-ups and kids, especially those who'll do just about anything to get out of going to bed. For ages 4 and up.

This delightful children's book was a Christmas gift for our favorite 2 year old.  After all the unwrapping and overeating, it was brought to me for reading.  I love to read out loud, doing silly voices and acting all kinds of dramatic.  With the entire family gathered around, I began.  It is such a funny book, I found myself laughing out loud!  More than once, I had to stop and regain my composure.  I hope reading Bedtime is Canceled on Christmas Day has become a new tradition.  If there are any cool kiddos nearby, grab this book and get ready for some laughter!

Tell me about children's books that you love!  Do you have any family traditions around them?

  14. That looks like a great book! I will have to remember it. My most recent favorite is one called Dragon Stew by Steve Smallman. A bunch of bored kids go on an adventure to hunt for a dragon, and it is so cute and funny!

  15. Hehe, my 6 year old would try to convince me that it was a true book and that we needed to cancel bedtime. He says he needs to have sleepovers with us; which means staying up alllllll night! Haha
